The primary catalyst behind A1 Austria’s NG-SOM/ROM (Next Generation Service and Resource Order Management) project was to undertake an OSS (Operations Support System) transformation to significantly reduce the number of systems and complexity in their OSS environment, a complexity exacerbated by the merger of Mobilkom Austria and Telekom Austria in 2010.
The company is also sought to enable a seamless order management process to support all lines of business, bringing mobile service orchestration onto one platform together with TV and fixed-line service orchestration.
Low risk, agile delivery of OSS overlay to simplify a complex OSS environment
A1 Austria undertook a radical transformation project to address the complexity of their OSS landscape – comprising many disparate systems and complex underlying business-fundamental processes stemming from a long history in the telecommunications business.
Infonova technology was chosen to integrate into the company's OSS landscape as a single streamlined, automated platform solution for consolidated management of all service order communication to their underlying OSS, thereby creating a non-disruptive solution layer allowing single services to be seamlessly swapped onto the new system without service disruption or outage. The converged order fulfillment and provisioning C-SOM/ROM solution now facilitates unified communication to approx. 50 downstream systems and enables quicker and simpler provisioning and better assignment and handling of tasks for the operations team. The technology provided service catalog and provisioning for the fulfilment of most of A1 Austria’s services.
The Infonova technology is an overlay to a highly complex OSS, enabling a seamless connection to pre-existing systems, and giving A1 Austria the future advantage to terminate these legacy systems without impacting business operations. The company will have discontinued all fixed line legacy by end of 2019, and following this, plans to continue consolidation with mobile and OTT services.

Successful implementation of the Infonova technology into A1 Austria’s business landscape has allowed the company to transform its OSS environment from a complex entity encompassing many systems and processes, to a single platform that is streamlined, automated and much easier to handle. A1 Austria has more control of its own business through self-management of the Infonova service catalog, improving time to market for new products and reducing requirements for technical support. Since implementation, there has been a significant increase in speed of order fulfillment, significant improvement of provision failure rates due to the automation, and better assignment and handling of tasks for the operations team.
